Laboratory Services

When you are not feeling well, your physician will want to find out as quickly as possible what is causing your illness. You can depend on our Clinical Laboratory for fast and precise information to assist in diagnosing your illness.

Our lab is accredited by the College of American Pathologists, the highest level of accreditation available for a clinical laboratory. This is your assurance that you are receiving the highest quality of laboratory services.

Under the direction of board-certified pathologists, our highly-skilled technicians work in a modern, computerized lab. We provide a full range of services to inpatients and outpatients. All lab services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Within our full-service laboratory are the following departments, with a brief explanation of their varied functions:

Phlebotomy - the collection of blood from the patient
Hematology/Coagulation - a measurement of red blood cells and blood clotting factors
Chemistry - a test of the serum in blood for different analytes
Microbiology - the identification of microorganisms that cause disease
Blood Bank - typing and issuing blood for patients needing transfusion with blood products from Kentucky Blood Center
Urinalysis – a measurement of renal function

Outpatient Collection Sites

When your physician recommends routine laboratory tests, you can visit either our hospital outpatient services or our laboratory at North Garrard Family Medical Center or Ephraim McDowell Lancaster Diagnostics. This allows you to have the tests drawn when it is more convenient for you. You can have your lab work done at these locations:

North Garrard Family Medical Center is located at 7786 Lexington Road in Lancaster. It is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Ephraim McDowell Lancaster Diagnostics is located at 189 Farra Drive in Lancaster. It is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
