Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose, Throat)
An otolaryngologist specializes in surgery of the head and neck
and treats diseases of the face, head and neck, ear, nose, paranasal
sinuses and upper and lower breathing and food passages. Typical
problems treated by an otolaryngologist include tonsillectomies,
hearing loss or dizziness, traumatic or congenital defects of the
face or neck, tumors in the head and neck area, hay fever and allergies.
Cosmetic surgery of the face, head and neck may also be performed
by an otolaryngologist. After earning an M.D. degree, an otolaryngologist
must spend five years in a residency program.
